Open Butterfly Garden and Eco-friendly Green Belts

Guidance regarding development of Green Belts and Open Butterfly Garden has been provided by the experts of the club t many institutes/companies.

The club helped develop Green Belt at Dahej Petrochemicles Complex of GSFDC Ltd in the year of 2009. Trees were selected keeping in mind not only the climatic conditions of the plac , soil quality etc. but also with a view to enhace the richness of bio-diversity of the flora and fauna. Trees that attaract different birds, butterflies, insects etc were selected for the project.

Later the Club also provided guidance and assistance to the Kakarapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) to develop an open butterfly garden in 2009.

The success of Open Butterfly Garden at KAPS led us to other similar projects. The Nuclear Power Station of India invited the Club to plan, develop and maintain similar Open Butterfly Gardens at different sites at Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS).

The purpose of the project is to create green landscape which attracts butterflies. The area is also kept pesticide free to help sustain the biodiversity of birds, butterflies, insects, moths and other living creature. Fill of various forms of life the butterfly garden becomes an ecosystem in itself.

The Club not only plant and design the project (the garden) but also selects and procure the trees and plants. It supervises the soil preparation and plantation, organized manure of the plants. For these if designs and erect the informative display panels. The Club experts also train local horticulture supervisors/ volunteers to maintain the garden. Knowledge about the butterflies, their life cycles, and requirements to grow and breed is also provided by the experts.

We are proud to say that we have observed the species of butterflies just 2 months after starting the project at the TAPS Butterfly Garden.
